While communities around the country are suffering from relentless climate impacts like floods, fires, heatwaves and droughts, big corporations are lining up to open up risky new fossil fuel projects across the country.

We can’t risk opening up new fossil fuel projects, yet Labor has announced that they’ll fund $1.9 billion to a huge industrial gas precinct in the NT called Middle Arm. Middle Arm will make it easier to process and export gas, and quickly lead to opening up the Beetaloo Basin for fracking.

Opening Middle Arm means fracking the NT. First Nations communities across Beetaloo and Barossa do not want gas expansion on their land and waters. With people across the continent backing this in, we can be a powerful moral voice calling for the government to scrap the plans for Middle Arm in their upcoming budget.

The Albanese Government’s Budget this May is our opportunity to roll back this huge hand out for gas that will help open the Beetaloo basin to fracking, and stop a climate bomb! This is a key step on the path to stopping gas expansion.

We’re demanding that Labor commits to:

  • No new fossil fuel subsidies in the May 2023 budget
  • A commitment to no new fossil fuel subsidies in the future
  • Reverse existing subsidies for gas expansion and infrastructure in the May 2023 budget, including all public funding for gas processing, manufacturing and export at Middle Arm Industrial precinct
  • Review of all existing public subsidies to phase out subsidies by 2025

With a massive grassroots network of young climate activists, local action groups nationwide, and volunteers with established relationships with MPs, we know with your support we can stop Middle Arm and projects like it across the country.

✍  Will you stand with young people and demand the Albanese Government commits to a safe climate for all of us and deliver a real plan to get us there
