Across the continent, our communities have faced a summer of devastating climate impacts, from sweltering heat waves, to devastating cyclones and floods. Yet fossil fuel companies are fueling the flames of the crisis, pushing ahead with risky coal and gas.
And, despite being elected in a historic wave of support for climate action, the Albanese government has fundamentally failed in the number one test of climate leadership: saying NO to more coal and gas projects.
Not only is Mark Butler a key member of cabinet, but his electorate is already feeling the impacts of climate change and rising sea levels. We're calling on Health Minister Mark Butler and the Labor government to protect climate and health by putting an end to new coal and gas projects.
With an upcoming Federal Budget deciding what gets funding, and a looming deadline for Labor to fix our environment laws so they consider the impacts of climate change, right now is a crucial moment to rise up and make our demands loud and clear: ❌no approvals or handouts for coal and gas ❌
More info about this event:
We'll be meeting at the Port Adelaide Lighthouse at 9am and hearing from some speakers, before heading to the office of Mark Butler across the road. After the protest, attendees will be invited to get coffee together and discuss future action for climate justice.
For those travelling by public transport, we will be coordinating travel to the action together by train. Mary will be catching the 3 May OUTER HARBOR train departing Adelaide Railway Station at 8.12 am; arriving in Port Adelaide at 8.33 am. Join us at any station on the route! We will walk together to the lighthouse (it's a 10 minute walk).
This event will be taking place on Yertabulti (Port Adelaide), which always was and always will be Kaurna Land. We acknowledge that this land was stolen, and that sovereignty has never been ceded.
