In late November 2025, AYCC will bring together around 100 high school students from across the Gold Coast region of Queensland for a transformative training summit. The event will create a unique entry point for young people to build the skills, confidence and motivation to take action for climate justice.
The Gold Coast School Summit will engage students in sustainability, and provide an opportunity to develop as student leaders contributing to a fairer, cleaner and more sustainable future for their community. The summit is part of the Switched on Schools program. The 1-day excursion will feature change making workshops conducted by young leaders, inspiring speakers (advocates, change-makers and more), and planning sustainability campaigns to make meaningful change. The excursion addresses sustainability as a cross curriculum priority and covers:
Students will learn from AYCC leaders and guest speakers about climate science and solutions, with pathways for practical action towards a more just and sustainable future, both within their school setting and through volunteering in the wider community. During this full-day summit, students from upwards of 10 different schools will participate in workshops that strengthen their leadership skills and kickstart conversations about what climate justice looks like for their communities. AYCC can provide follow up in-school workshops to support your students with their sustainability campaigns.
Goals of the Summit
★ Build students’ confidence and understanding of the causes and solutions to
climate change, the powerful role of young people in creating positive social change
★ Highlight student voices for a safe climate future to decision-makers and the
public through climate communications and telling your story, and how to take
meaningful action as young people in QLD.
★ Build the leadership of young people to action climate and sustainability in their
schools and communities
About the AYCC
AYCC is Australia’s largest youth-run climate organisation, with a national network of volunteer action groups and over 150,000 supporters. Our mission is building a generation-wide movement of young people leading solutions to the climate crisis. Our unique role in the climate movement is training, organising and mobilising young people to protect our future. Throughout our history, we have empowered over 100,000 high school students through educational workshops and leadership programs that build their skills and confidence to take action on climate. Our work over many years laid the foundation for the School Strike 4 Climate movement in Australia, and AYCC played an instrumental role in catalysing and supporting this student movement throughout 2018-2020.
