With COP26 fast approaching, we'll be coming together to make sure we have clear plans for all the creative actions we'll be taking across the conference. We'll talk about how to get support and resources for your action, touch base on recruitment and logistics plans for the actions, and have space for grassroots groups to connect and problem solve any issues they've been having with planning.

Haven't started planning around COP26 or not part of a grassroots group yet? Don't stress; we'll connect anyone new to existing teams so you can dive straight in and start supporting the tactics happening across the country. There'll also be an opportunity to join the central media team, who will coordinate our social and traditional (print, radio etc) media across the conference.

We'll also run a short videography and content creation training, to make sure everyone has the skills and resources they need to create content for COP26.

What is COP26?

COP26 stands for 26th Conference of the Parties. Every year, parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) come together to discuss climate change and review the implementation of the UNFCC. 197 countries are involved. This year, COP26 has 4 key goals: 1) Secure net zero by mid century and keep 1.5C within reach 2) Adapt to protect communities and natural habitats 3) Mobilise finance (specifically, rich nations must make good on their promise to mobilise at least $100bn in climate finance per year) 4) work together to deliver, through finalising the Paris Rulebook.

Why does COP26 matter?

With Joe Biden and Boris Johnson both pushing Australia hard to commit to net zero and a heap of media coverage on climate, COP26 is a crucial moment to be putting justice centred solutions to the forefront of conversations on climate action, and push for more ambitious policies from all sides of government.
