Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network - Stopping Fracking in the NT

Seed has been fighting hard to protect country, water, health and our climate with the campaign to stop fracking in the Northern Territory. Right now, 51% of the Northern Territory is covered in exploration licenses for oil and gas. Our deserts, springs, plains, and bushland are too precious to risk with dangerous fracking wells. Fracking would poison groundwater, pollute the air, destroy sacred sites, and change our seasons.

Watch our 25-minute documentary, Water is Life to learn about the Borroloola community’s fight to protect country from fracking.

Seed recently launched a campaign taking on Origin Energy to stop fracking. After the NT Government lifted the moratorium on fracking in the Territory, Origin plans to be the first company to start fracking in the NT. Just as well we’ll never let them.

In October, we headed to Origin’s AGM to launch our public campaign. We stood with Traditional Owners from across the Origin fracking permit areas in the Territory as they delivered a long petition against fracking to the chair of Origin’s board. Seed’s Campaigns and Organising lead, Phil, gave an incredible speech calling out Origin for failing to conduct proper, widespread engagement with Traditional Owners. With Origin hoping to start fracking in March, now is an important time to be turning up the pressure on the campaign and holding this company accountable.

Will you take the pledge to stop Origin fracking in the NT?
