We’ve been busy in the NT speaking with communities about the dangers and impacts of fracking. Through this, we hosted remote community workshops in Minyerri and Elliott for 20-30 people in each community. These workshops kicked off with a BBQ open to the whole community to come along and watch Seed’s “Water is Life” short doco. Have you seen Water is Life yet? Watch it here.
This was followed by two days of training on the causes and impacts of climate change and fracking, and to build plans to tackle this in their region. Following a community-led survey of the community of Minyerri finding that 93% of people do not want fracking on their land, community members have declared Minyerri a no-go zone for fracking.
As you probably know, Origin Energy is planning on being one of the first cabs off the rank to open up the NT for fracking. Right now, we’re turning up the heat on Origin Energy through a variety of grassroots tactics including weekly actions at their offices across the country.
