Safe Climate Roadmap

What do a Reverend, Supermodel and grandparents all have in common? They have added their voice to our Safe Climate Roadmap.

In the last two weeks we have seen records being broken all across the country. Heatwaves and bushfires and a very real reminder that we as Australians are already experiencing the impacts of climate change. This summer our climate is sending us a message – but our Government has no plan to address this critical issue for young Australians.

So what are you going to do about it?  Real action on climate change has never been as fiercely, searingly urgent as it is right now and yet, at the State and Federal levels our leaders and politicians are taking us backwards. People, it’s clear: we’re going to have to do this ourselves.

So that’s what we’ve started doing. We’ve come up with one ourselves. It’s called our Safe Climate Roadmap and it’s based on the best research and advice from around the world. To get ourselves out of the mess we’re in, we’re calling for three big things:

  1. Reduce our pollution at least 40% by 2020

  2. Invest in transitioning to 100% renewable energy within 10 years

  3. Move Australia beyond coal and gas

These are the three things that need to happen if we’re going to shift Australia from it's role as the great coal quarry of the world into a bastion of clean energy and sustainable development. We know we’ve got the technology, we’ve got the natural resources. We’re one of the sunniest and windiest countries on Earth. We could lead the whole world on this. We could be the example that people in the United States and China and India point to - ‘Look at Australia, look at what they’re doing, they show us it can be done’. We can do that, we can get there. But we can’t do it without you.

For us to have a shot at this, we need to turn our Roadmap into reality. These three goals need to be the election promises and policies of our major parties. Not in 50 years or a decade but in the next couple of years. That’s going to take the biggest campaign this country has seen in a generation. It’s going to need people who have never campaigned for anything before. We’ll have to assuage fears and inspire the cynics. We’ll need you, with all your influence amongst your peers and your workmates and your family, with your local community; you and your inspiring stories, your energy and your ideas. We need you to stand up and get some skin in the game here. We need you to be in this. We can't do it without you.

Lend your voice to the Safe Climate Roadmap. Get your brothers and sisters, your aunts, uncles, classmates and colleagues, your teachers and ministers and bosses to put their names beside it, so we can show our politicians the majority of Australians want real, ambitious action on climate change. Share your story on our roadmaporganise a local campaign to sign up businesses and local organisations, be there to present our Roadmap as an open letter to your local MP and join us in Canberra as we deliver the national letter to Parliament.

This is the beginning of a big campaign, the campaign that’s going to turn the tide on climate change. We need your help to get this thing rolling. Together we can make history.

Wanting more from the Coalition on climate change this election

My name is Billy and I am a volunteer with the AYCC in Victoria. I first heard about the AYCC through a friend during a discussion we were having about potential volunteer opportunities. She recommended them highly, and with climate change being something I already had an interest in, I was soon signing my first petitions and then expressed an interest to volunteer.
