Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nations looked after the land for tens of thousands of years, and there is a huge amount we can learn from Australia’s Traditional Owners about tackling climate change and protecting country. As the elders of the future, it’s important that young Indigenous Australians have opportunities for leadership and mentoring. We also know Indigenous peoples are often disproportionately affected by climate change impacts.
This is why Indigenous communities need to be front and centre of our efforts to solve climate change - and why at the AYCC it is our responsibility to ensure that Indigenous youth are leaders of our generation-wide movement
