To Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Future Fund Chairman Peter Costello, don't use the Future Fund to destroy our future
To Future Fund Chairman Peter Costello, Finance Minister Mathias Cormann and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull:
We call on you to publicly rule out investing money from Australia’s “Future Fund” in Adani’s mega coal mine and port in Queensland.
After agreeing to limit warming to 1.5 degrees at the Paris climate summit last year, investing in a huge coal mine that scientists warn is incompatible with limiting warming to 2 degrees, is dangerous and irresponsible.
Right now the Great Barrier Reef is experiencing an extreme bleaching event that is likely to cause widespread & long term damage to our Reef, because for too long we have mined and burned fossil fuels like coal.
Australia should be investing in the technology of the future – clean renewable energy – not dirty old coal projects that will wreck the Reef and our climate.
We call on you to rule out using the Future Fund or any taxpayers’ money for Adani’s Carmichael mine in the Galilee Basin, Abbot Point terminal and associated infrastructure.
