My name is Billy and I am a volunteer with the AYCC in Victoria. I first heard about the AYCC through a friend during a discussion we were having about potential volunteer opportunities. She recommended them highly, and with climate change being something I already had an interest in, I was soon signing my first petitions and then expressed an interest to volunteer.
The current government is responsible for a 50% drop in renewable investment, while the rest of the world moves on with the clean energy revolution. Here's our media release:
The Australian Youth Climate Coalition has labeled new figures that show renewable energy investment has dropped by 50% since the Coalition was elected as a disgrace.
The figures from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation’s annual report show that investment fell $6 billion in 2012/13 to $3.17 billion in 2014/15. At the same time investment globally grew to a record Australian $449.28 billion.
“The Federal Government has been asleep at the wheel causing Australia to miss out on clean power and new clean jobs” Dan Spencer a National Campaigner with the AYCC said.
“Tony Abbott’s government will be remembered for its ideological war on clean energy and the impact of this can be seen in increasing power emissions and renewable energy investment falling 50%. The question is, what is Malcolm Turnbull going to do about it?” Mr Spencer said.
“There’s no doubt been a change in tone since Malcolm Turnbull became Prime Minister, but Tony Abbott’s cuts to the Renewable Energy Target still remain in place. Australia needs more than just a change in ‘vibe’ to grasp the opportunities of cleaning up our power and shifting to 100% renewable energy” Mr Spencer said
