My name is Billy and I am a volunteer with the AYCC in Victoria. I first heard about the AYCC through a friend during a discussion we were having about potential volunteer opportunities. She recommended them highly, and with climate change being something I already had an interest in, I was soon signing my first petitions and then expressed an interest to volunteer.
Yesterday we paid a special visit to our politicians in Canberra, to bring them a bit of love and to let them know that climate policy is a bit like romance: actions speak louder than words.
You can check out our super cute wrap up video:
The best part of the day is that while our tactics were fun and attention-grabbing, our conversations with politicians and media coverage contained a serious message - we need all our politicians to commit to our roadmap for a safe climate future:
- Reduce our carbon pollution in line with the science - at least 40% by 2020
- Transition our energy to 100% renewables within 10 years
- Move Australia beyond coal and gas
We’re going to continue to find new and creative ways to build support for the Safe Climate Roadmap from now until July. If you want to get involved head to our Roadmap site and find out how.
