Marguerite, one of our stellar Tomorrow Testers, got in touch with Marianne Leishman of the Australian Sex Party to quiz her on the climate policies she’s taking to the voters of Bradfield.

Marianne, also know as Miss Zahra Stardust, gave us some great responses to our questions. Marianne is committed to “rapid and significant reduction of greenhouse gases with high-income nations (responsible for three-quarters of carbon currently in the atmosphere) such as Australia (as a high per capita polluter) reducing emissions by at least 40% by 2020”. She also believes that “USD 150 billion should be made available for low-income countries to adapt to the immediate impact of climate change, reduce emissions and develop in a sustainable manner”.

As a human rights activist she is deeply concerned about the impacts of climate change and sea level rise especially on vulnerable Pacific Island states. As a party concerned with gender issues she and the Australian Sex party are “also aware that women in developing countries feel disproportionate affects of climate change, particularly because they make up an estimated 70% of those living below the poverty line”.
